What is a Teaching Station Computer?

A teaching station computer is any computer located in a classroom that is primarily used by a lecturer. They are commonly the computer at the front of the room. Teaching station computers are connected to the projector and speakers in the classroom. Their asset tag (inventory number) will be located in a large sticker on the base of the computer monitor.

All students, faculty, and staff can log into and use teaching station computers.

Equipment available at teaching stations:

  • Document camera
    • NOTE: If there is not a document camera in a classroom, that is because the teaching station computer cannot support the document camera software needed. LTS will not put a document camera in those classrooms.
  • VGA cable
  • HDMI cable
  • Presentation remote

Common Questions/Issues

I need to install a certain software on a teaching station computer for class, but I need administrator credentials.

All teaching station computers have Software Center installed on them. You will be able to install any software from Software Center onto the computer. Keep in mind that you may need to reinstall the software each time you use the computer.

If you would like the software permanently installed on the teaching station computer, please submit a Teaching Station Computer ticket with the computer's asset tag and the name of the software you would like installed.

When I try to use presenter mode for my presentations, my presenter notes appear on the projector even though my notes are on the confidence monitor.

If there are two monitors in a classroom, they are still using the same cable to connect to the computer, so they display the same thing. If you would like to use presenter mode, you must bring in a laptop that has an HDMI port. You can connect your laptop using the courtesy HDMI cable in the classroom and extend your laptop's display to the projector screens.

I am trying to play a video in class and there is no sound.

There are three places to check for sound volume on a teaching station computer:

  • Check the computer sound settings (speaker icon in the bottom right-hand corner) to make sure the volume is turned up to your preferred volume.
  • Check the computer sound settings to make sure that the Crestron is selected as the playback device.
  • Check the video sound settings to make sure the volume is turned up on the media itself.
