What is Duo?

Duo is a multi-factor authentication (MFA) app that adds a layer of protection to your University account. In addition to entering your password, Duo notifies you whenever someone attempts to log into your account, prompting you to either allow the login or deny it.

Prerequisites

To set up Duo, you will need a computer and your smartphone. You will also need your Duo enrollment email. 

How to Set up Duo Security

Setting up Duo is very easy! Click on the link provided to you in your Duo enrollment email and follow the steps on screen to add your device to your Duo account. If you run into any issues with this process, give us a call at 715-836-5711 and we will be happy to walk you through the process over the phone.

Common Questions/Issues

I haven't received my Duo enrollment email yet and no campus resources are requiring me to authenticate with Duo. 

If you haven't received your Duo enrollment email and you haven't run into the Duo screen when you try to log in, you don't need to do anything. Eventually, you will receive your Duo enrollment email. These emails usually get sent out during the first month of the semester. 

I haven't received my Duo setup email and I am getting the Duo log-in screen when I log into campus resources.

Submit a DUO Security Activation ticket and we will have the Duo enrollment email resent to your university email account. 

I don't have a smartphone. How do I enroll in Duo?

There are several options for Duo besides using a smartphone. You can use a tablet or landline to enroll in Duo. If neither of those options work for you, you can submit a request for a Duo token. Once you submit your Duo token request, you will receive an email when your token is ready to be picked up at the Help Desk. 

Can I opt out of Duo? 

Duo is required for all students, faculty, and staff. With the increased number of successful phishing attacks, and in compliance with UW-System policy, Duo Security is in place to provide an extra layer of protection on select systems. The goal of this change is to prevent future phishing attacks and protect sensitive data.

I forgot my phone at home and I don't have any backup devices. How do I log in?

Give the Help Desk a call at 715-836-5711 and we will assist you with logging in.
