Information

Projectors and Displays

The most common call we receive about issues in classrooms is about displays.  Windows allows users to change displays so to Extend, Duplicate or to only "show" on a single display.  This may result in undesired behavior or even make it appear as if a display or the computer is not working.

Unable to see the Windows login screen

If the monitor for the teaching station is only showing a black screen instead of the Windows login screen, try turning on the projector.  If someone changed the display settings on the computer to "extend," that will result in the login screen only showing on a single display.

The content I want to show my students is only displaying on the monitor instead of both the monitor and the projector

If your active application is only showing up on a single display, the computer is set to "extend."  It will need to be changed to "duplicate" to show content on both the monitor and the projector.

Changing the display settings

Any authenticated user can easily change the display settings on a Windows computer.  While logged into the computer, press "P" while holding down the Windows key (W).   W+P will bring up display options in the lower-right of one of the displays, allowing you to easily toggle between extend or duplicate.
