Service Description
Use this service to notify Learning and Technology Services if you believe your account has been compromised (accessed by someone other than you) or to restore access after you have been notified by LTS that your account was accessed.
Audience
UW-Eau Claire students, faculty, staff and emeriti.
Information
An account is considered compromised if someone other than the account holder has gained access to it or has potentially acquired sufficient information where they may access the account. There are many ways in which this can happen, but a common one is through phishing campaigns where an account holder provided information in a form linked to in a phishing email.
Signs of a compromised account may include, but are not limited to:
- Emails you did not send going out from your email
- Not receiving new emails or all new emails are going into the Deleted Items folder
- Emails from Okta about new sign-ons that don't match times, browsers or locations for your sign-ons
- Unfamiliar MFA methods or devices in Okta
Watch for suspicious emails that could lead to a compromised account
- Unfamiliar sender
- Unexpected email and/or attachments
- Unusual email address
- Sense of urgency (for example, must reply immediately or your account will be suspended)
- Unusual amount of grammatical and/or spelling errors
- Links to external sites
- Any request to provide your UWEC password, personal or financial information
- Signature identifies sender as "Help Desk," "IT" or "IT Help Desk" UWEC uses "LTS Help Desk," "LTS" or "Learning and Technology Services" for most technology-related communications
Learning and Technology Services does not correspond with users via text messages. We will NEVER ask for a One Time Passcode or your password. Please do not provide sensitive information, including passcodes, passwords or social security numbers, through email or text messages.
